Various Designs

I finally have a collection name, because I am designing butterflies and flowers on and as the garment. I have decided to call my collection ' Nature is the art of God". Here are a handful of my designs.

This is the image I got my inspiration for the top design.
This design is inspired by the different sections in a butterflies' wing.

I got the design above's skirt section shape from this image.
If you look at the on the side you can see I have made the skirt section from a butterfly wing.

The layering shapes on this dress are from petals on a flower.

The shapes on this dress are also from petals but I have just decided to put them on the hem line instead of up the dress.

This skirt is again from butterfly wing using the shape for the hem and the lines as the different shapes in the wing.

This is the same s the top image but I have used three layers instead of a normal skirt with various panels.

This is also from a butterfly wing but i have added the bottom section to turn the design into a flat hem dress.
The skirt above is made of petals being layered.

Vintage Fair

Raising money for the fashion show, we held a stall at the vintage fair in stockport. We gathered vintage clothing to sell, this is what people had brought in and vintage garments that past students and present students had made.

I put my vintage jumper which I added a modern look to into the sale. I also constructed an underskirt using netting and lace.
The image above is what I made.

I really liked this. I loved how teddy bear eyes have been put where the button's are supposed to be. I also like the feather detail.

Paris 2011

Paris was an amazing experience. I'm so glad I went. Apart from the area I found it really fun. We found that some of the french people were ignorant, then you got the odd one that could tell that we were lost and would stop to help. Having a map for the metro really helped. We independently found the stop we needed to get off at to see everything that we wanted to see. If i have one negative about this trip is that two full days is not enough to see the hole of paris. An extra day or two would of been great.

Nothing really went with collection but I still took pictures of everything that I found unique and unusual.

We went up the eiffel tower. You don't notice how big it is till your at the top. I found how it was constructed really interesting and inspiring.

I found the the catacombs really weird as  had never seen anything like that before.

At the end after looking at thousands of skulls and bones it made me think of how many bodies are actually there.

I was excited to see the Notre Dame as it was a childhood film that I had watched.

I really like the colours in this glass window.

My Chosen Theme

Having done a lot of research in the holidays about everything around me there has been a common theme running through.. So I have decided to go along the nature route using flowers and animals/insects and pulling out shapes to either use as a garment shape or putting the shapes onto the garment in an unusual way. I have also decided to use rather a lot of textile work which involves lace making, applique and embroidery there may also be some other I may want to use but haven't chose them as of yet.

My samples of textile work:
My Lace.. Top is a rose, Bottom is a section from a tudor house.

My embroidery.. I accomplished the look of this using a sewing machine with various stitches on.
This embroidery is of a section also on a tudor house.

My Applique.. this is a flower from my sketchbook which I traced various petals.

Quotes I Agree With

Donna Karan said:

Today, fashion is really about sensuality-how a woman feels on the inside. In the '80s women used suits with exaggerated shoulders and waists to make a strong impression. Women are now more comfortable with themselves and their bodies-they no longer feel the need to hide behind  their clothes.

‎"Clothes and jewellery should be startling, individual. When you see a woman in my clothes, you want to know more about them. To me, that is what distinguishes good designers from bad designers. "
— Alexander McQueen
